Near Misses
Oct 28, 2023
To think…
If not for a confused (and ultimately wrong) text from Thing One, I may have still been in that parking lot last night… And thanks to over a year of doing “our thing,” I would recognize those headlights anywhere. Would you have chanced to park next to me? Obviously I can't know, but what I do know is we would not have had a repeat of the last time that happened, a couple of years ago. Sitting just a few feet and a couple sheets of glass apart… me, too nervous to acknowledge you… you… well, I can't speak for you. But now. I know now that you want to spend time with me. You told me so. The question these days isn't if, it's how — how to, how often, how far, how much are you willing to bend things, just… how?
Then another near miss, on the way out… those headlights again, this time right behind me.
My biggest takeaway from last night: Don't listen to Thing One, lol.
Then this morning, even better… we were heading for your door. But we had been intercepted by another friend, who also had important business.
So close. So close. I was happy to be spending time with these people, I enjoy all of their company, but we were so close. And I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for her to wrap it up. Waiting to continue the march to your door…
But… before we made it, you answered the text. I knew it was over when they both took out their phones at the same time. Alas. And I wonder… did you see us all, standing there at the bottom of your driveway? Were you even home? Your car was there, but that doesn't mean anything…
I suppose it doesn't really matter, really… just another near miss. Or not. A miss, one way or the other.
Well. Maybe tomorrow, if it works out. If not… then Tuesday. Tuesday. How long will we all be willing to freeze our butts off on Tuesday?
sigh
Soon. One way or the other, I hope it's soon. I need it to be soon. I miss you. I miss you. I miss you.
Yours,
